Der If-Satz Typ 2 wird immer dann gebraucht, wenn ausgedrückt werden soll, daß die Wahrscheinlichkeit, daß die Bedingung des if-Satzteils erfüllt wird, nur noch theoretisch ist.:
If the weather was fine we would go swimming.
Das sagt man, wenn das Wetter trübe, kalt oder regnerisch ist
